Power in Partnership

One of the things I've loved most about running Taproot over the last three years has been the people I've had the chance to work with.
Many of the people who join our project teams also own businesses of their own. They have their own clients and their own goals. When we're working together, they become part of our team.
I don't think I expected to enjoy working this way as much as I have.
At some point, it feels like we started treating businesses in the same industry as though everyone had to choose a side. You're either on one team or another. You're either an employee or a competitor.
That hasn't been my experience.
When a new project comes in, I find myself thinking about the client first. What are they trying to accomplish? Who has the experience to help them get there? Who would work well together?
Sometimes the answer is someone who's worked with us for years. Other times it's another small business owner who brings exactly what this project needs.
I've found that some of the best work happens when people with different experiences come together around a shared goal. Everyone brings something different to the table, and the end result is stronger because of it.
Maybe that's one of the advantages of being a small business. We aren't limited to the people whose names are on our website. We get to build the right team for the work in front of us.
I'm incredibly grateful to the people and businesses who've partnered with Taproot over the last three years. You've made us better, and you've helped us deliver work that I don't think we could have created on our own.
A special thank you to Cynthia Ryan with Edgeworks Creative, Dawn Ferullo with The eLearning Company, and Sarah Miley and JoLynn Fletcher with Wildlight Strategy. Each one of these companies and each one of these individuals, in addition to having their own businesses, have been an integral part of Taproot's success.
I'm curious whether others have found the same thing. Have you seen more collaboration between small businesses over the last few years, or has your experience been different?
